Hi Abhijit,
How are you making the ImageMap for the India map?
I don't think this is done on any other wiki also, (at least I didn't find it)
So we have to do it on our own .
Using Photoshop (or ImageReady), we can create imagemaps for any complex polygonal shape (any selected region.)
This is the turotial for that.
For example, I created the ImageMap for Maharashtra state (100% accuracy wrt image) and Karnataka State (80% accuracy wrt image) from the image and put it in the Template.
For 100% accuracy we need too many points and I dont know, whether we will need this much accuracy or are there any disadvantages of having so many points.
If there is any easier way, please let me know.

Feel free to revert my changes, if you have already done this or planning to do this some other way.

Kshitij, you are correct! I found this svg file on Media Commons but it has not been used to create Image maps yet. So yes, we will be the first to do this. I saw your Maharashtra efforts. While they are commendable, and I am sure you have must put a lot of time in it, I think it is an overkill. The purpose of the Image Maps is to give the users a fair estimate of where the states are located in the map. So we don't need a 100% accuracy. I tried to do Arunachal Pradesh, but did a poor job and am probably going to redo it. Any additional efforts by you or others will be welcome, but I don't want anybody to spend too much time on this. Afterall even if one can roughly estimate the location of states in the maps, it is a good achievement!! Let me know your thoughts on this...

I completely agree.
Although, it took only 5 min. for me to create ImageMap for Maharashtra and Karnataka. (Thanks to the option of "Converting Selected Region into ImageMap" option in Photoshop. It also gives the option of deciding the accuracy.)
But there is one serious dis-advantage of having so many points (which I just realized). This will increase the size of the template and when we will eventually include this template in भारतावरील लेख, it will also increase the size of the article and will take longer to load.
So, we must have fewer points
I can create the imagemaps for all the states if you want.

I just finished Arunachal Pradesh! Plz check it for accuracy. Very uneven borders of the Indian states makes this job a little tedious. Yes, you can go ahead and create the maps at your convenience. Meanwhile, if you come across a svg image file for districts of Maharashtra, let me know, I can convert that in Marathi as well. Thanks अभिजीत साठे ०४:०८, १७ डिसेंबर २००८ (UTC)
