Why are you leaving?

i feel we lack a right direction, coordination, and most importantly working in a group to achieve a common goal there are individual editors and will always be, but at least some effort should in group. there is no team effort, we are more than 1600 people but how many of them edit or visit mr wikipedia and how come we just have just 5 sysops. out of this 5people how many do really edit. (few of them havent edited since last few years) i know you are the one who is very hardworking and supportive but we need more and many more editors, groups, sysops. I am sorry but i cannot see this happening thanks,

This last edit on the 'hydrogen ' page is mischievous and polluting. I would rather like to see these people make additions to the missing parts.

मी सध्या इ.स.च्या वर्षांच्या व तत्सम पानांवर करत असलेले पुनर्रचित वर्गीकरणाचे काम आपण पाहातच असाल. नुकतेच आपले एक संपादक Maihudon यांनी सुचविले की, हे काम जर पुनरावृत्तीच्या स्वरूपाचे असेल तर सांगकाम्याला हे सोपवता येईल का यासंदर्भात आपल्याशी चर्चा करावी.

पुनर्रचित वर्गीकरणाचे काम सांगकाम्याला सोपवता येईल का? याबाबतीत आपले या बाबतीत काय मत आहे? मी अद्याप एकही सांगकाम्याची थेट निर्मिती केलेली नसल्याने मला निश्चित कल्पना नाहीये; परंतु माझी अशी धारणा आहे की, देवनागरी अंक अजूनही आकड्याप्रमाणे स्थान मिळालेले नसल्याने सांगकाम्यांना हाताळायला इंग्रजी आकड्यापेक्षा क्लिष्ट असावेत व त्यामुळे मी एकदा सुसंबद्ध व अगदी पद्धतशीर वर्गीकरणाचे काम मार्गी लावेपर्यंत सांगकामे फारसे उपयोगी ठरणार नाहीत. सध्याचे वर्गीकरण मी सांगकाम्यांना व मानवी वाचकांना दोहोंनाही अतिशय सोयीस्कर ठरेल या प्रकारे करत आहे. एकदा का ते झाले की बर्‍याच करण्यासारख्या गोष्टी सांगकाम्यांना देऊन टाकता येतील.

Bot Usability

Hello,

I had same points in my mind about bot usability for the categorization task of Christ Era year pages that I am currently doing. What I am doing is primarily something that bot whould use later to do any of repetative static works. Right now I don't think that either your or any other bot can handle what I am doing. But once that is over there are many tasks that bot would be able to enjoy doing by using current systematic categorization.

It seems you are yourself engaged in converting "Category:" to "वर्ग:" on some pages. I think you can surely save your time and efforts at least here and hand it over to bot created by you. Is it really usable here in this regard as I have thought?

Wikipedia contest

Hello Abhay,

The contest idea is very good. I was thinking about the list of topics to be offered to the participants. Well, can you just convey your headings/categories that you find suitable for the purpose. I would give few from myself very soon after being sharply selective about them.

By the way, how to write e-mail to a member of wiki? Just in case it is possible for you, can you convey about these things to other admins of wikipedia, particularly those who have got busy in other hectic works and hence are not available for us over here on wikipedia for past few months. I believe that some of them like Harshalhayat have very innovative things to suggest. If possible please do write e-mails to them as we fail to get response from them on their talk pages, if, by being very busy, as any time I am afraid any of us can also be, they just find no time to even open up wiki site.

I read through your message, since you strated creating the contest related page ,I am already following the edits you are doing there.The concept is nice , only the thing is ,till now, I could not make up mind at what level I do get ivolved in this project. And another thing is for future I am looking forward to work a little for dispute arbitration related work here at Marathi Wikipedia, I am not sure How that role will go well along with a some role in Contest related work.

आपण Marathibot हा सांगकाम्या (Bot) निर्मिलेला आहे. त्याला देण्यासाठी आता एक चांगलेच शुद्धीकरणाचे काम येऊ घातले आहे. खरतर आता मी जे काम सांगकाम्याला देण्यासाठी प्रस्तावित करत आहे, ते फार पूर्वीच देता आले असते; परंतु मध्यंतरी मी संबंधित वर्गवारीच्याच अत्यंत दीर्घ कार्यात गुंतलेलो असल्याने नंतरच ते द्यावे असे ठरविले होते.

I also have been out of Maharashtra for last 4 years. When I was staying in Maharashtra, nothing actually bothered me. I thought everything was going good. But when I moved to south India, I saw how the people over there and the state government supports their people and language.

I am replying to your comments below. 1-10.

0. I observed that Marathi people are more than willing to speak in Hindi (if the other person asks something in Hindi, then it is a great opportunity!). So, the people migrating (for job opportunities) do not face any need to learn and speak Marathi. Marathi in social world is at decline. In South, however (e.g. Bangalore) many people use Kannada or English instead of Hindi. So migrating people get some difficulties in staying.

1. [महाराष्ट्रात अमराठी चित्रपट चालतात - This is a reflection on the demographics.] In Mah, Marathi speaking population is around 70-80%. However proportion of Marathi movies screened is < 5%. In Bangalore, Kannada people are around 60% and Kannada movies screened is also close to that. This is not the reflection of demographics, however it is the reflection of 'preference of demographics'.

The point is most Marathi people watch Hindi movies. Marathi people should watch good and quality movies in other languages (e.g. Hindi, English) but they should also watch and support Marathi movies. Nowadays, good movies are coming up, but we need to support more.

If we go to any Marathi household in Mah. and ask to play "गाण्यांच्या भेंड्या", by default, everyone starts Hindi songs. जुनी, नवीन मराठी गाणी येणारे लोक खूप कमी आहेत.

2. [नोकऱ्या - माझ्या मते याचे कारण आहे की सामान्य मराठी माणूस शेळपट आहे.] I agree. We need to support and upskill our people and also make them aware. Go to any railway station in south india and you will find almost all employees from the same state. मी पुण्याला रेल्वे स्टेशनवर ’पूछताछ’ खिडकीमध्ये मराठीतून विचारले तर समोरच्याने वाकडे तोंड करुन उत्तर दिले: ’हिंदी मे बोलिये.’. Marathi people easily go for talking in Hindi. So, no settlers bother to learn Marathi. The proportion of non-Marathi speaking settlers is increasing and in Mumbai, if you talk in Marathi, you will be fooled.

3. [क्लेरिकल, कॉल सेंटरमध्ये मराठी माणसाला योग्य मार्गाने न्याय मिळाला पाहिजे - Justice is EARNED, not begged for. ] I agree completely. And we need to increase awareness among our brothers and sisters. मराठी माणसाची स्थिती ’आंधळं दळतं आणि कुत्रं पीठ खातं’ अशी आहे. I am reiterating again that we also need to upskill and educate more and more Marathi people.

In bangalore, the state has a made a law to have all boards in Kannada first. And it is STRICTLY implemented. There are organisations which blaken the boards not written in Kannada.

6. [मराठी वृत्तपत्रांना मराठीतच बातम्या देण्याचे आवाहन करा ] I agree again. Again we need to create awareness. Marathi TV Channels have many advt.s in Hindi, in Marathi news (about Mumbai or Mah.) many of Marathi leaders speak in Hindi (probably because the reporter asks in Hindi). On Kannada channels, I have never seen advt in other language. Also their CMs., Mayors etc. talk in Kannada in front of Media.

7. [इंग्लिश शिका. स्पॅनिश शिका, रशियन शिका.] I agree. Learning English has tremendous competitive and opportunity advantage. But also we need to make sure that in Mah., settlers are gradually learning Marathi. Be roman in Rome.

8. [आपले तेच चांगले अशा भ्रमात राहू नका.] I agree again.

9. [शासनाची मदत घ्या पण त्यावर विसंबून राहू नका.] I agree again.

10. [आपली भाषा विनाकारण क्लिष्ट करू नका.] I agree. Nothing wrong in accepting simple words from other languages. e.g. Mobile, Cell, Trip, TV, MP3 etc. Also, It is good to have higher education in English.

Finally, Only Marathi people can support and empower Marathi. If Marathi loses importance and necessity in the state, no one migrating here is going to learn it and it will be endangered. (Like Native American languages, it will be native Maharashtrian language.)

I would like to request you whether we can use Marathi Wikipedia to spread the word? We can probably add one page with title मराठीचे संवर्धन and list down the things that can be done to empower Marathi. This will be of great help.
