Supporting Marathi Community

Dear Nanu and Meshram,

I found that you have raised few concerns on my user talk page. Thanks for raising your concenrns there. But I am posting the reply to that here because all the interactions that I am doing recently with Marathi wikimedians is related to my role with wikimedia foundation (consultant, Indic initiatives whose role is to support the different Indic language wiki communities). As mentioned is this userpage I am trying to help Marathi wiki community to grow its community. Other than helping Marathi wikiprojects and wikimedians from outside, I do not want to involve in any day today activites of Marathi wiki projects. I am here just to support the community. Please read my detailed reply below this.

My biggest priority for all Indic languages is to support community building. Based on my personal experience on Malayalam wikipedia, and my interactions with other language editors, I have a few ideas. However, I also know that what works for one language does not necessarily work for other languages. Every language needs a very collaborative and customised approach for it.

When I started working as consutant for Indic language wikipedias, for Marathi, the first step was to reach out to as many Marathi wikipedians as possible and to listen, learn, and document their experiences and ideas. The only practical way was to start off with the people I already knew. I also tried to reach out to Marathi wikipedians I did not know. Many didn't replied, some replied. But that is fine since we are just starting and we will continue discussions this year also.

I then shared all the responses that I got in meta wiki and informed community about that. Subsequently, I also shared a synopsis of all my discussions across all Indic languages on meta wiki and informed that in the mr-wp village pump. I followed this up with some suggestions that had come either from Marathi community, or from other communities which I thought had relevance for Marathi.

At every stage, I have always welcomed comments and inputs and fresh ideas from every single editor on Marathi wikipedia. I continue to welcome them and I invite you to please join the discussion. my id is shiju@wikimedia.org. Please feel to reach me. I need everyone's views.

As I know everyone's common goal in Marathi wiki is to expand the Marathi wiki projects and to make its community more healthy and vibrant than it already is - and I am confident this will help to further improve the quality of Marathi projects. You are saying you are consultant to wikimedia foundation meaning you are paid by foundation for doing work. Then I suppose you are servant (who servers for community at cost) and not boss over community.

I hope before coming to any conclusion you may have done some study/research. Because you know few (your friends) you have taken there interviews and based on selected politically dominated tinted people you are drawing conclusions is totally wrong methodology. STOP this. This is not a proper way of doing research and analysis.

1. Have you every given any public declaration on village pump for feedback?
2. Have you ever checked the top editors on Marathi?
3. How you decide samples?
4. What sample size one should have and whether they are form which domain?

If you do not know standard research methodology please dot not do it. I will also raise questions on your research methodology on meta so that more people can give there opinion.
