म्यानमार एक बहु-धार्मिक देश आहे. देशाचा कोणताही अधिकृत राज्यधर्म नाही, परंतु म्यानमारचे सरकार थेरवाद बौद्ध धर्माला प्राधान्य देते. म्यानमारमधील २०१४ च्या जनगणनेनुसार बौद्ध धर्म हा प्रभावशाली धर्म असून देशातील सुमारे ९०% लोकसंख्या (४,५१,८५,४४९) बौद्ध धर्मीय आहे.^[२] विशेषत: बमार लोक, शां, रखीन, मोन, कॅरन, झो आणि चिनी ह्या प्रमुख बर्मी समाजातील लोक बौद्ध अनुयायी आहेत. उर्वरित १०% लोकसंख्या ही ख्रिश्चन, मुसलमान, देशी धर्मीय, हिंदू, इतर धर्मीय व निधर्मीय यांची आहे.
