डेव्हिड हा इटालियन कलाकार मिकेलेंजेलोने इ.स. १५०१ आणि १५०४ दरम्यान पुनर्जागरण काळातील- संगमरवरी शिल्पकलेचा उत्कृष्ट नमुना आहे. डेव्हिड हा ५.१७-मीटर (१७ फूट ० इंच) [a] बायबलसंबंधी पात्र आहे जो फ्लॉरेन्सच्या कलेतील एक आवडता विषय.[b]
१६ ऑगस्ट १५०१ रोजी, मिकेलेंजेलोला हे आव्हानात्मक नवीन कार्य करण्यासाठी अधिकृत कंत्राट देण्यात आले.[३] त्याला कंत्राट मिळाल्याच्या एका महिन्यानंतर १३ सप्टेंबर रोजी सकाळी त्याने पुतळा कोरण्यास सुरुवात केली. दोन वर्षांहून अधिक काळ ते भव्य पुतळ्यावर काम करणार होते.

- ↑ The height of the David was recorded incorrectly and the mistake proliferated through many art history publications. The accurate height was only determined in 1998–99 when a team from Stanford University went to Florence to try out a project on digitally imaging large 3D objects by photographing sculptures by Michelangelo and found that the sculpture was taller than any of the sources had indicated.[१][२]
