Please discuss policy for Non Marathi Bots convey it prominently to all old and new bots

  • Policy page governing non-marathi bots should be conveyed at
  • All non-Marathi Bots please do register yourself with bot name, controllers User name, talkpage, with brief info the work Bot carrying out; source of Marathi words reffered by the bot etc. at mr:Wikipedia:Embassy .
  • Make atleast 50 edits or as asked by local burocrat to get bot flag
  • Other than interwiki linking,prior permission from Marathi wikipedia Burocrats or sysop is must.
  • Non-Marathi Bots are requested, to not to carry out any spellcheck/spellchange in Roaman or Devanagari script in Marathi Language wikipedia or wictionary; except in cases of specific request comming from a Marathi Wikipedia Sysop after due consensus at Marathi Wikipedia.
  • Where bots or non Marathi wikipedia want to request spell change shall do so first at mr:Wikipedia:Embassy in a separate subsection.
Non-Marathi Bots shall not carry out any change in any images and pictures(Ohter than commons delinkers to avoid copyright issues)
Non-Marathi Bots shall not upload any images and pictures without express permission or request to and from Sysops or Burocrat from Marathi Wikipedia with due consnsus and/or requirement.

[संपादन] Local Burocrat's modus operandum

Modus operandum in dealing with bot requests has been to contact the operator on his/her home wikipedia and request a set number (usually 50) test edits on w:mr. Once the bot fulfils this requirement, I grant the bot status and contact the operator again, letting him/her know that the flag has been granted. After that, Burocrat keep an eye on that bot for a few days to ensure no funny business is going on.

Most of the pending bot requests fall into one of the following categories --
  • Fly-by request. Someone operating a bot blasts a bot request to all wikipedias, regardless of whether they intend to work on w:mr or not. These do not respond to my request of test edits. Burocrat do not grant without test edits..
  • No response. There is no response, positive or negative from the operator.
  • Opposition from local users and/or failure to address concerns and answer questions.
  • There are also some other bots that have been editing here without requesting a bot flag. Unless requested, an account must not be flagged as a bot.

Oppose. Agree with concerns by Mahitgar. Unless the bot is going to use some official Marathi source I cannot see how a non-Marathi person/bot can create good city stubs.

Hi, AlleborgoBot is an interwiki bot run by Alleborgo starting at the italian wikipedia. The bot uses the pywikipedia framework daily updated to the last SVN version. The Bot runs in autonomous, but sometimes, it will run in manual assisted mode to solve interwiki conflicts. Already has a bot flag in ar, am, an, az, bar, bg, br, bn, bpy, bs, ca, ceb, cs, cv, da, de, el, en, eo, es, et, eu, fa, fi, fr, frp, gl, he, hr, ht, hu, hy, id, is, it, ja, jv, ka, ksh, ku, lb, li, lmo, ln, lt, mk, mi, ml, ms, nap, nds, nds-nl, nl, nn, no, pl, pt, ro, roa-tara, ru, sco, sh, sk, simple, sl, sq, sr, su, sv, ta, tg, th, to, tr, tt, uk, ur, vec, vi, vo, zh, zh-classical, zh-yue. oppose With my recent observations of recent other bots,I do have following concerns so , I oppose any interwiki linking bot activity unless assuered that the bot will ensure that it will source mr pages data only and only from English Wikipedia, which has been added only by a wikipedian having knowledge of first level Marathi
I am sure I am not over reacting ,Personaly I take care that I am not over policing but I am still sure that my concerns are real and that Marathi WIkipedian active editing Community need to take earliest initiative to add interwikilinks on their own atleast at English wikipedia and to have clear cut policy in this respect.

It is impossible to guarantee or even find out if a page was created by such a person. Additionally, a page created by such person may have been changed by another, non-conforming person, rendering this requirement meaningless...

I have looked into the concern raised by Mahitgar for the bot flag request of AlleborgoBot (previous request). My bot has bot flags in 27 wikis and I have observed that many wikis insist at least a basic knowledge of the language to perform manual mode edits. More than one user may be running this bot, with different set of rules. E.g. फक्त शुद्धलेखन, fix only numbers, (changing 0-9 to ०-९), etc. Currently the code is not optimized so more time is required to do the multiple things. Hence multiple owners.

Thanks for your clarification. If there are multiple owners/areas to be targeted, I'd recommend creating different accounts and designating each for a particular task. For example, I have a three bots that work on separate tasks -- क्रिकाम्या - tasks related to cricket articles, रिकाम्या -- शुद्धलेखन/spelling corrector, हरकाम्या - all other tasks, etc.
This allows the owner(s) to keep track of what's going on at all times and a bit more clarity for the rest of the user population to understand the changes.
Of course, this is only a suggestion and not mandatroy. Let me know what you think.
